Auto Ordnance Serial Numbers

View this discussion about Looking for info on an Auto-Ordnance 1911 in the Numrich Gun Parts Forum. The serial number is E 05552 and I purchased it in January. Contact Auto-Ordnance for all of your technical and repair services on their top quality firearms. And serial number and model of the firearm.
Your pistol is a clone of the government model 1911A1 pistol and those parts,GI,Colt or aftermarket will fit your pistol. The exceptions will be on those models that differ from a standard model(the short barrel versions, mainly) The major difference between a series 70 and a series 80 has to do with Lawyer added parts. The series 70(and prior versions) do not have the firing pin block parts. There are parts for this mounted in the reciever.the RH rear and is visable as a 'finger' that levers up when the trigger is pulled rearward. This part will depress a plunger mounted in the slide that is a firing pin block. With the slide pulled back and locked to the rear you can see the plunger protruding from the underside of the slide.
With the slide in this position.you should NOT be able to push the FP forward and have it extend from the slide face. You have to press in the aforementioned plunger and hold it there to get the FP to move. I(f you pull up the online schematic of the Colt 'O frame' on this site.you are looking for parts:-31.-57 in the frame and -10 and -33 in the slide. These parts require a frame cut and a hole in the slot.the FP also differs. Your pistol is one of several dozen aftermarket versions of the Colt Goverment Model and while a good servicable pistol.it is nothing special in the aftermarket world Custom parts for it at www.brownells.com both drop-ins and gunsmithing required. Greetings, I am new to the forum.
I have a couple of questions re: my West Hurley A-O M1911. The serial number is E 05552 and I purchased it in January 1994. Can you tell me when it was made? I purchased the M1911 and it sat in my closet unused for the last 17 years.
I took it out a couple of months ago and right out of the box it shot 2-3' groups at 15-20 feet. I did some research on various forums and pretty much read only trash talk about A-O firearms. Yamaha Diagnostic Software Driver. But that doesn't square with my M1911. It has a flawless Parkerized finish, very smooth internal milling, the slide has a very slight play if you really work at it. But overall the gun handles very well and shoots great. So, I did some more looking and found an review by Dean Speir of the pre-Kahr A-O 1911A1.
He also started out with a very low view of A-O guns. But the gun he reviewed changed his mind completely. He found out that the gun was manufactured under the supervision of Jerry Stokes and hence, the high quality of guns during the mid 90s. I am wondering if my gun was manufactured under Mr. Stokes supervision and hence its quality? I am also wondering if Mr.
Stokes still works for Numrich as Bob Lippman emailed me that he does? Are parts available for my West Hurley A-O Model 1911? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
